However, you still need to get the right fonts!
So, how can you do that?
What are the things that you need to keep in mind while choosing the typography of the page?
These include a number of important things, such as:
- The website's appearance
- Content quality
- Usability
- Navigation
Asking a few questions can help to make the task a bit easier for you.
Here’s a quick look at some of them.
What is the Website About?
That’s probably the first thing that you need to ask when it comes to choosing the typography for your website. And there are some obvious reasons for that. Moreover, the target audience for whom you are writing the content is also going to play an extremely important role while you choose the font. For example, some somber content for the business audience will surely have fonts, which are different from its counterparts used for children’s websites. And it’s on you to select the fonts prudently to ensure that they are communicate to the target audience properly.
Can the Visitors Read the Text Properly?
Readability - that's probably another extremely important factor when it comes to choosing the right fonts. Sounds easy, eh? But just have a look at the web and you will find lots of websites that just don't follow the simple rules. And it's damn difficult to read the text that they have. They are either too large or extremely tiny. The lines, words or characters are either crammed, or the space is more than what you require. You have to focus on readability of the website to ensure excellent returns from there.
Serif or Sans Serif?
Are you creating a business website? Or, is it meant for a more personal manner? The answer to these questions are going to help you decide whether you should be using a serif font or a sans serif one. The serif ones are more close to designs and appear to be decorated, while their sans serif counterparts are plain in appearance. So, if you want to add warmth to a website, serif needs to be your choice. But for business websites, it is important to choose the serif versions.
Is Uncommon Always the Answer?
Are you in favor of using an uncommon font whenever you design a website? That can surely be great at times. But not always. Remember, it's not without any reason that the common fonts have been used and overused. You might use an uncommon font, but make sure that the users are able to read it properly. Moreover, the uncommon fonts don't always match the subject. Moreover, as they are not used much, they fail to match the requirement of the audience as well. So, you should better go with some of the used fonts by placing them at the right places.
Same Fonts for All Places?
Are you using similar fonts for all parts of your website?
That actually might not be a great idea. You can use the normal font at maximum parts of the website. But it is a wise decision to give it some tweak at headings or subheads. You can use a bold format or an italic one at those place.
Won't it be great if you change it for headings and subheads?
Doing this will play a great role in adding some variety to your webpage as well. But if it does not appear professional enough, using the same font can be okay. But you should differ the size or the styles at different places, so that the readers don't feel monotonous while reading the text on the web page.
It is important to have great quality content for your website. But even that might not always be enough, especially if the fonts that you are using are not of correct. So, it is important that you use the typography correctly to get the best results.
